Moving and Handling People relates specifically with the handling of people and is relevant to healthcare workers and care providers. It follows a minimal handling/lifting policy and risk assessment. The purpose of this session is to provide manual handling instruction for staff in compliance with the requirement laid down in the Care Standards Act 2000 and the Health and Safety at Work Act (1974) and Manual handling operations (1992).
Who Should Attend?
The course is designed for all carers who need to lift or handle people, and who have already received training in moving and handling such as the Principles of Manual Handling course or similar.
Any staff who have suffered a back injury within the last 12 months must inform the trainer prior to the session.
What they will learn? How to move people safely, so that moving and handling risks are reduced to the lowest level

Legal requirements and responsibilities
Anatomy of the spine
Falling Patient
Assisting people in chairs
Assisting people in bed
Assisting mobility
The use of handling aids Slide sheets, Turntables, Handling belts, Transfer boards
Use of a wheelchair
Risk Assessment

Assessment by trainer throughout the course

3-4 hours
Certification:
The training provider will certificate the course. Certificates are issued for each candidate and are valid for a maximum of 1 year
Course Duration:
A 12 hour course presented over 2/3 or 4 days
Course Outcome:
Candidates who successfully complete the course will be issued with a wall certificate. This qualification Is Valid for 3 Years
