A one-day course that meets the recommendations of the European Resuscitation Council for First Responder Defibrillation. Recent technological advances in defibrillator design now make it possible for rescuers with limited training to provide defibrillation earlier following sudden cardiac arrest using an automated external defibrillator (AED). This course is delivered in accordance with the ERC 1998 guidelines.
Selection of suitable candidates;
Ideally candidates should hold HSE First Aid at Work but full training in CPR can be given if necessary. An AED is an integral part of the formula and must be in situ before training can take place.
Content:
A Scenario featuring a first responder who is the first to respond to a cardiac arrest patient.
The emphasis is on the ABC's of patient care.
Instructor led demonstrations of ABC's and AED operation.
Lots of hands-on practices for the students
Maintenance, safety and troubleshooting.
Assessment:
Candidates will be expected to complete a resuscitation assessment at the beginning of the day; anyone failing this will not be able to continue with the course. They will also be assessed at the end of the day to show their competence and understanding in the use of the defibrillator.
Course Outcome:
Candidates who successfully complete the course will be issued a wall certificate. This is a certificate of successful completion and is valid for a period of 1 year.
